Day 293 – Capillas de Marmol

Today we would all go to the Capilla de marmol (marble cave). Shany and Maya headed out earlier than the rest of us since they were trying to see the caves early and then skip town. The remainder of us were planning on spending one more night in our apartment. We had amassed a pretty large group at this point. Shany, Maya, Toby, Lauren, Baj, Zane, and myself. Countries represented were Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, and the US. Ethnicities were too many to count. It was a good collection of mutts. Those of us that were remaining in the apartment were interested in kayaking instead of taking the much cheaper boat. It was almost double the price but I felt kayaking there, and going through the marble cave by my own power was worth it. Day 66 – Kayaking in Sylvan Lake at Custer State Park & Devils Tower

Ever since I set foot in Custer State Park I knew I wanted to kayak on Sylvan Lake. The lake is beautiful and the granite spires viewable from around the lake are really impressive. So before driving off toward my aunt, I went back to Sylvan lake with that goal in mind. The lake was smaller than what it appeared and I only needed 30 minutes or so to circle the lake twice. Regardless I was happy I got to do it before leaving the area. On my drive to the lake I ran into another magnificent bison herd. I initially focused on the pair below because the male kept on grunting and sticking out it’s tongue. Another section of the herd that caught my eye was a mother and her calve seen here walking toward me. Finally, these two made me laugh as the scratched themselves against the hill.…

Day 19 – Kayaking to Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge

Yesterday I took to the water to head to Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge. It is only accessible via water. I was excited about getting out on the water because ever since I saw kayakers in the Potomac, it was stuck on my mind. Since it was the weekend  I had the company of my friends Geri and Sing. Throughout there was lots of wildlife consisting of mostly birds, fish and insects. Below are some of the better shots.
